Parent Tip: Fun with Mirrors 02/22/2010
Babies love to look in mirrors. Although she won’t be able to figure out for quite some time why the baby in the mirror seems to move every time she does, her reflection is sure to elicit plenty of giggles and big smiles. Point to and identify parts of her face in the mirror, encourage her to razz or stick out her tongue at the baby in the mirror, or to wave and say “Hi” to her reflection. Hold her just out of visual range of the mirror and ask, “Where’s Baby?” Then move her in front of the mirror and say, “Peekaboo! There’s Baby!” Try out silly hats or talk to puppets and dolls in the mirror for added fun.
